dennis

Dennis
Age: 41
Location: Belton, Missouri
Addiction: Meth
What’s memorable:  How he walks 20 miles a day just wandering the streets, how he took the rap for his dad and went to prison and everything went to shit while he was there, but he still managed to get out and make a great life for his family until the housing market collapsed and it all went to shit again. How great his family was doing after his intervention.

Official Synopsis: Once a big-hearted Christian family man, Dennis uses his meth addiction to run from the past that haunts him, while his family falls apart
Original Air Date: August 2012
Interventionist: Jeff

diana

Diana
Age: 40’s?
Location: Roseville, California
Addiction: Meth, Alcohol, Norco
What’s memorable: How far she’s fallen, with the homelessness and prostitution and abusive boyfriend. Her emotionless and seemingly uncaring mother (i.e. “There are times I should have pretended to care more than I did”) and how she refused to tell her she loved her even at the intervention. Most of all, her kids. How much they adore her and care about her, how emotional they are about seeing where she’s at now. The post-rehab airport reunion at the end was so full of love and joy, it was beyond heartwarming. This was a truly powerful family story and reminded me of why I love this show so much. “I can’t believe my family gives that much of a shit about me. Unbelievable” – Diana. That is the point of Intervention right there.

Official Synopsis: Former ‘Super Mom’ to her three children, Diana has exchanged her apron for an alcohol and meth addiction and is unraveling her marriage, family and sense of self-respect.
Original Air Date: September 2012

Al

Al
Age: 32
Location: Modesto, California
Addiction: Meth, Pain killers
What’s memorable: How his size and tolerance mean he’s taking 15 hits of meth plus 45 pain pills A DAY. That’s an insane amount of drugs to consume. His crazy untrue stories, the whopper of a lie we find out about at the very end, getting bullied and kidnapped as a kid, his mother’s need to never lose him. And the lovely followup.

Official Synopsis: Al, a big guy with a big personality, is sacrificing his relationships with his wife and children to chase his out-of-control meth and painkiller addiction.
Original Air Date: October 2012
Interventionist: Ken

Kelly
Age: 27
Location: Harbor City, CA
Addiction: OxyContin and meth
What’s Memorable: The man who raped when she was a kid (her sister’s boyfriend) went to jail for raping someone else and is about to be released. Her need to escape is understandable. The way she talks about what happened is excruciating. She has so much pain and reasonable resentment. It seems from the followup like she had found some measure of peace in her sobriety. I hope that continues.

Official synopsis: Kelly, a 27-year-old mother of three, mixes pills and meth to forget the man behind bars who destroyed her childhood. Can Kelly’s family come together to help her face the painful past that consumes her?
Original Air Date: November 2012

sarahp2

Sarah P.
Age: 21
Location: Fortuna, California
Addiction: Meth
What’s memorable: It’s great to see Elena doing so well, she was one of my all time favorites, but it’s terrible that she has to feel responsible for introducing her granddaughter to meth.  Sarah’s in some severe denial, thinking she’s just partying like any other 21 year old. “Gimme a line and I’ll do it. It’s not hurting me really so I don’t know why it’s a big deal.”

Official Synopsis: When her rock and best friend, her grandmother Elena, went away to treatment, Sarah, 21, spiraled out of control. Today, in denial of her own addiction, Sarah is on the same path of addiction her grandmother was on just six months ago. This cycle of addiction must stop in this family now, or unfortunately, Elena will pass on a legacy of addiction instead of recovery.

Season 14, Episode 7

mindie

Mindie
Age: 29
Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Addiction: Meth
What’s memorable:  Her parents not understanding how a 3 year old could even be molested, and not doing anything to support her when she finally told them about it. The things she said to her sister in law were awful and insenstive – there’s gotta be some amends to make there. I loved that she met Sam (from the last episode) in treatment and they became fast friends. Having someone there that just went through an intervention (televised!) must be so comforting. I hope they continue to help each other through recovery.

Official Synopsis: Suffering post-traumatic stress after being molested as a child, Mindie developed a drug habit in her teens that gave way to a full-on meth addiction in her 20’s.

Season 14, Episode 7

katherine

Katherine
Age: Early 30’s?
Location: Warner Robins, Georgia
Addiction: Meth
What’s memorable: She lost her kids because of the incredibly sketchy living environment they were in. I don’t blame the parents for taking custody at all, seems like they were pretty endangered there. Katie (at least as she was portrayed in the episode) is definitely not a very present as a mother. Watching her hiding in the car smoking meth while her kids were asking where she was, that was brutal. And the whole claiming her friend stole the journal that had her mother’s bank account info in it? No. How awful for that family. I don’t know if Katie really had the perfect childhood with no obvious addiction trigger or if the show’s new format of spending very little time on backstories meant they/we just didn’t find out the ways that her childhood wasn’t so perfect.

Official Synopsis: Katherine got hooked on pain pills after a botched epidural during childbirth. Now she’s addicted to meth and lost her home and custody of her kids.

What’s memorable:

Official Synopsis: When James first tried meth, he’d thought he’d found a wonder drug to give him the energy for a demanding job, marraige, and fatherhood. But the resulting addiction and sprial took all of those things away from him. Now his ex-wife is trying to save his life so their sons will have a chance to know their father.

Season 14, Episode 11

david

David
Age: 26
Location: Roseville, California
Addiction: Meth and alcohol
What’s memorable:  His meth-induced paranoia and psychosis, how much his friend Jessie loves him and would do for him, the bizarre, enfuriating intervention and the awesome followup. Ken was amazing in this one. And by amazing I mean “Good god how does he deal with this relentless abuse and keep his composure?”

Official Synopsis: The sons and nephew of Major League Baseball stars, David struggled not only with being compared to his athletic family, but also with his own sexuality. Acting out turned to alcoholism and meth addiciton, and it wasn’t long before David found himself dumpster diving and sleeping behind stores in his family’s upscale neighborhood.

Season 15, Episode 2

Sierra
Age: 19
Location: Redding, California
Addiction: Meth

What’s Memorable: Everything is memorable. Her eyes, her bare feet, how the words coming out of her mouth mean something to her and nothing to anyone else.  Every person in her entire support system is an addict in recovery and she felt like she needed war stories but then couldn’t handled them when they happened. Sierra’s brain cannot deal with drugs. Donna shows up for this one in a big way. I don’t think that any other interventionist could have done this intervention better than she did.

Official Synopsis: The daughter of a small business owner, Sierra was an honor student with dreams of college and a career in journalism. But when a double-dealing artist charmed his way into her mother’s life, he gambled away their home and the bottom fell out of Sierra’s world, leading to a frightening drug-induced psychotic break. Today, the 19-year-old is a feral junkie, scrapping for a fix on the streets of Northern California.

What’s memorable: It’s obvious what a loving father he is and how much it hurts him to be spiraling in this addiction and not be able to be there for his kids.

Official synopsis:  Ricardo, is a dedicated dad of three on weekends, but suffers from a daily addiction to meth which threatens to destroy his health, professional success, and relationship with his children.

Brittany Intervention

Brittany
Age: 27
Location: Derby, Kansas
Addiction: Heroin

What’s Memorable: Brittany’s relationship with her dad is really moving. The guy seems so damn cool and a really good father, despite his addiction. I had a lot of respect for his willingness to go to treatment to help get his daughter clean. If that’s what he needs to motivate himself, fine, as long as it keeps him clean and keeps Brittany feeling supported.

Official Synopsis: Brittany was part of the all-American family. But rape, drugs, and divorce have caused this family unit to crumble. At the center, Brittany’s heroin and meth abuse has created a tornado that has divided the family and now threatens her life..and worse yet, Brittany may not be the only active user in the house.

Season 17, Episode 4

Clint
Age: 36
Location: Missisauga, Ontario, Canada
Addiction: Meth, Fentanyl

What’s Memorable: The deeply disturbing way Clint behaves when he’s high. You know those crazy videos of people acting psychotic on frakka or bath salts? He’s like that. I’ve never seen anyone act this way on the drugs he does. I wonder if his untreated ADHD contributes somehow?

Official Synopsis: Clint, 36, was raised in a tight-knit, middle-class family. His parents expected success for their four children who were all precocious and engaged in school. But in high school, when his siblings had gone off to college, Clint fell in with the wrong crowd and began to struggle. The only graduation he would see was to a life controlled by crystal meth and opioids. At a loss as to where it all went wrong, Clint’s parents have seen their son’s excesses progress to crazy and dangerous levels. Without an intervention, they know he will die.

Season 16, Episode 5

Jordon
Age: 29
Location:  Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Addiction: Meth (injected)

What’s Memorable: The whole weird situation with his sister on a night when he was high was disturbing. I hope he’s made amends for that because it clearly affected his sister Katie, she obviously needs some closure there.  I love that when he got to treatment he was immediately motivated to commit himself to recovery and really make an effort. I love it when they do that! All in all a powerful and heartwarming episode.

Official Synopsis: Handsome, talented musician’s promising career is sideswiped by crystal meth, plunging him into a life of crime, prostitution, and addiction. (Canadian produced.)

Season 16, Episode 13

Robert (Robbie)
Age:  28
Location:  Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Addiction: GHB, Meth

What’s Memorable: This one is absolutely heartbreaking and it’s one of the most moving and uplifting episodes of Intervention ever. The family dynamics of the 3 adult children here are clearly the fault of neglectful and absent family members. I think that’s what Andrew was getting at during the Intervention – yeah mom was the huge fuck up who did everything exactly wrong but where was everyone else? There were 3 kids here that needed family and no one was there for them. The sisters had to parent their little brother, feel helpless when he wanted to stay with the mom who sold him off, had to see him being horribly abused, and weren’t able do anything about any of it. As adults, with all those guilt issues weighing on them, they are trying to reconnect and do something to help him in his pain. The dinner they all had together -you could feel Robbie’s sense of being out of place, of wanting to be able to talk to his sisters but not having the tools to say anything meaningful, despite how he may have felt about being with them again. The intervention was one of the best I’ve seen. Andrew rocked it, and the followup was amazing. Dammit I love this episode.

Official Synopsis: Sweet, adorable and with a shock of blond hair, young Robbie was doted on by his two older sisters, Cara and Kristy. The trio were inseparable. Even as their home life descended into chaos when their mother turned to drugs and prostitution, the three siblings took care of each other. When the situation got worse and they were sent to foster care, they still stuck together. But eventually 11-year-old Robbie would separate from his sisters, escaping foster care to search for his wayward mother. He found her, only to follow her down a heart-breaking path of destructive drug use. Now 28, Robbie’s sisters unite to see if there’s any chance of saving their little brother and becoming a family again.

Season 19, Episode 4

Shiann
Age: 22
Location: Helena, Montana
Addiction: Meth

What’s Memorable:  I think what I’ll remember most is her saying “This isn’t the person I want to be” right before agreeing to treatment. You could tell it was a powerful moment for her.

Official Synopsis: At the age of 22, Shiann has already faced a lifetime of pain. The shocking death of her sister, a diagnosis of A.S., a progressive and debilitating disease, and an unexpected divorce, sent this once vivacious fitness model and bodybuilder down a path of meth-fueled binges. With no help in sight, her family fears losing another loved one to an early death.

Season 5, Episode 12

Jenny
Age: 32
Location: Twin Falls, Idaho
Addiction:  Heroin, Meth

(Guest Post by Stefan) What’s Memorable: This episode illustrated the concept of Patriarchal Blessing in the Mormon Church, which was something I was unfamiliar with. It was a breath of fresh air to have such a religious family be as supportive/understanding of an addicted family member as Jenny’s was (it’s something I feel like isn’t so common on this show). Also, her shooting up and nodding off while giving a haircut was disturbing.

Official Synopsis:  Jenny, 32, is a talented hairstylist from a close-knit Mormon family. When a diagnosis of endometriosis crushes her dreams of having a family, she turns to prescription drugs. Her addiction quickly escalates to IV heroin and meth use.

Season 19. Episode 6

Mallory
Age: 33
Location: Norman, Oklahoma
Addiction: Heroin, Meth

What’s Memorable:  Mallory’s story is pretty heartbreaking, all the trauma she suffered while still doing her best to be a good mom to 6 kids, it’s not shocking that she turned to drugs to escape. But that conversation with her daughters where she tells them that calling out her crappy behavior and telling her how they feel makes her want to use, because she’s been trying SO HARD to be sober, and her daughter saying “that’s not something you say to your children.” She’s right, it’s not, it’s so deeply manipulative, and also such a common thing for addicts to do to the people who love them. It’s taking the care and love that people show and turning it around, giving themselves permission to get high and feel justified about it, and making their loved ones feel like it’s their fault. It’s one of the uglier things that addiction does to cause family members such intense pain and frustration.

Official Synopsis: Escaping an abusive marriage, Mallory turns to drugs to cope with the fallout, becomes withdrawn, and loses interest in her children.
